Quick blog because I need to go to bed earlier because I have a job interview tomorrow. This will be my first job interview in NZ and I am nervous to say the least, but I am going with the attitude knowing that if nothing comes of this then at least I will have the experience of a NZ job interiew. And I know that whatever happens, happens and is meant to be. I am not going to stress about it because stress never did any good for anybody.
Today I am grateful for....
1 - the beautiful rain we had last night
2 - the kindess of neighbours
3 - seeing eels and trout in the stream
4 - the innocence and fun of watching children play
5 - the opportunity for a job interview
6 - technology like skype and gtalk so i can chat to my friends
And with that, its tea time, then bed.
Good night world :)

Well as you can see I haven't been doing this daily!
But today, I am grateful for...
1 - Waking up early to go to a garage sale.
2 - The beautiful garden I get to see almost every day
3 - Friends who email me
4 - Receiving a job interview (that was yesterday)

Things I am grateful for - 6 Jan 2010
Today was both my mom's and aunt's birthday, they are twins, and because I am in NZ, we get to live the day before the rest of the world and I thought I would forget my mom's birthday, but I did not! However phoning at 7 in the evening kind of feels like the day has already been, but in South Africa, her birthday was just beginning. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mom :)
We (my aunt and I) headed into town this morning and I soon discovered you can not get an asthma pump over the counter - quite stressful when you NEED a pump. We went to my other aunt, Heather, for lunch and had a lovely time with the family there. My cousin's little girl, Ashley is so adorable and absolutely loves my digital camera and has great fun naming all the people in the photos, however she cannot quite comprehend that I can take a photo one second and the next we can be looking at it!
Today I am thankful for...
1 - My Mom, who even though she lives far away, I know she thinks about me everyday
2 - That the world really is not that big - technology
3 - the sheer excitement of veggie gardens and watching things grow day by day (the novelty has not worn off!)
4 - The freedom I have to go walking at 9pm at night
5 - Food I have eaten, especially the first of our own home grown potatoes
Seems like such a lame list, but I guess in a way, it is kind of like the highlights of my day as well. I really do not know if anybody reads this, but in some strange kind of way, there could be some person on the other side of the world I have never met who is finding this highly amusing and here I am sitting in New Zealand thinking and feeling like I am talking to myself!
And with that, I am off to bed.
Good night world :)

Chill out Natalie
I think I have too high expectations for myself. I have been in NZ just over 3 months and have yet to get a job. I feel very upset that I have not got a job, and have realised that things are not easy and that they do take time. I seem to forget that I have uprooted myself, my own choice, from my family, my friends and what I know as home. I forget all the emotional stresses that go along with emigrating. I find myself longing for friends to do things with, to laugh with, to have 'personal' jokes with. I forget that friendships such as the ones I'm longing for, take time, and most of all, I forget I have ONLY been here THREE months!!!
When I think about it, I have done a heck of a lot since I have arrived, it doesn't seem like a lot, but then I remind myself that I have only been here three months. The not-having-a-job is getting to me, but I am hopeful something will come in the soon. There was a recession last year and a lot of companies are still very cautious with hiring new people, I just need to keep positive that something will come my way.
I need to learn to rely and accept help from people. My uncle said to me this evening that when something is offered in kindness and love, one should accept it, regardless, and you should not feel guilty that you have to repay them. I have always thought myself to be independent and not NEED people to rely on and help me, but I am finding out now, that more than ever, I NEED my aunt and uncle and where I cannot contribute financially to the household, I am contributing to their well being by helping around the house, cooking, doing laundry and just by being here, and that one day in the future, in a years time or 20 years time, they may need me like I need them now.
I need to learn to not be so proud and that what comes around, goes around.
Moving to NZ has been the most difficult thing I have ever done and each day in different, each day there is something new I learn or experience. I need to actually slow down on myself and learn to appreciate all that is around me and all I have achieved.
Phew, with that, it's bed time.

Things I am grateful for - 4 Jan 2010
A friend of mine has started something on her blog, everyday she lists 5 things she is grateful for. My 'adopted' granny once gave me a diary and in it she had written that each day I should find at least 3 things that made me happy or that I was grateful for. I think I did that for a few days and then lost interest. But after this evening, I am going to try and list at least 3 things everyday that I am grateful for....
1 - I am grateful that I have family that care for me and my well being and happiness.
2 - That I have a roof over my head and food in my stomach.
3 - For the lovely sunshine on my bed while having a lie-in this morning.
4 - That I live in a beautiful country where safety is not that much of an issue.
5 - Not being alone
I do not know if anybody even reads this, but I'm going to try and blog more this year, I think it's a good way to get your thoughts onto 'paper' and for me, it's one of the next best things after having friends to talk to.
